The Lord of the Rings Pwns.

August 20th, 2008 (12:22 pm)

I'm re-reading The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Well, sort of. It was the summer before my freshman year the first time I tried to read it. But I stopped during what everyone (at least everyone I've talked to) christens 'the boring part'. You know, it's in The Two Towers, and Frodo and Sam are being led into Mordor by Gollum, and it's like, forty of fifty pages of walking through fields. My freshman mind told me, "Ugh, this is so boring. Just stop, Ryan. You don't have to finish this." I listened.

Halfway through my senior year, I said to myself, "You know, Ryan, you are stupid. Well, were stupid. You were more than halfway through a great book and it got a little boring, so you quit. Well, now you can't just go read what you didn't read before--it's been too long for that. You've got to re-read the entire trilogy." So, I promised myself I would re-read The Lord of the Rings before I went to college. I've got about a week and a half before I go, and I've got less than ten pages left--it'll get done.

But here's the thing, now that I've got less than ten pages left, I am incredibly hesitant to finish it. Like, just this morning I sat down to read. I read maybe a page, and I stopped. Not because I was bored. Not because I had something else to do. I have loved every sentence in The Lord of the Rings (even during the boring part), and I just don't want to be done, yet. I'm only delaying the inevitable.

And I'm pretty sure all of this has nothing whatsoever to do with The Lord of the Rings.

Edit: I'm done.

With new experience comes new revelations about one's self.

That being said, if I ever (and I mean ever) even speak of doing another children's play, slap me hard, look me in the eye and say, "Remember when you did that one where you were the lion?" Now, I'm not saying that I hated it. I'm saying that I would have... liked it more if... there weren't little kids running around everywhere.

But hey, that part of me is gone. I mean, I've cut my hair, so I won't have to remember my 'mane' every morning I wake up. So, I'm good.

Since Almost-Halloween

April 22nd, 2007 (07:41 pm)

Hey, it's almost Halloween, if you didn't know. But it's on a Tuesday this year, what's up with that?

I started writing that entry last November. I got only two sentences in? That's kind of pathetic. Maybe I just... couldn't think of anything else to write. I got my cheesy "What about airline food" introduction, what else is there?

Well, a lot. Except I can't think of any of it right now. There was Carolers, and Hard Candy, and I took a lot of showers during the period of time between November and Now. Well, I didn't make NHS, and I'm kind of okay with it. Actually, I'm completely okay with it. So that's good. I still don't know what I want to do with my life, but am think music. Music, music, music. Kind of like Marcia, marcia, marcia, but not really, because it's music.

Tangent!

I tried out for All-State, and don't think I got in mainly because Harris pretty much told me I wouldn't. If I do get in (which I doubt), I think I'll experience more join in that I more or less proved Harris wrong, instead of actually making All-State, is that bad? I guess it's just the human in me. If someone tells you you can't do something, and you do it, shouldn't you rub it in their face? Yes. Yes, you should.

I also didn't make the spring OHS play, or the spring LTO play. Double-rejection. I'm kind of in a good place with that, though, too. I'm playing tennis instead. Well, I'm trying to play tennis--let's make that clear. But I kind of want tennis to be over, like now. It was fun for a while, now it's just old I guess. Meh, I don't know.

So, that's a rough and short summary of what has happened to Ryan since almost-Halloween.

Hey there ol' LiveJournal! How have you been this summer? Good? But lonely? Yeah, I'm sorry about that. Anyway, I thought I'd give a summary of what I've done this summer. In a list. Oh, and it's also going to be rated.

1. SummerFest! Best week of my life. If anyone wants to go next year, just tell me. I'll get a permission slip for you and everything. And I might even hug you because you're going. But probably not. It's probably the greatest thing ever, though. Dancing to sweet 80's music, cool teenage age people, God. The three things you need to make a good week, right? Right.

2. Family Reunions! I had two. One just for a day where we did really fun things, like shaving cream fights. And the other was for a week up North. We stayed at a resort. And I went water skiing. And fell while water skiing.

3. Ultimate Frisbee! I'll find the man who invented this game. Because he's really a genius. And he knows how to have fun. Like good fun, though, not like the regular genius-fun. Like watching Star Trek and splitting up molecules and such.

4. Saturated Fat Eating Contest! 4 guys and one girl eating as much saturated fat as they can in one hour? That's crazy! And besides SummerFest, Family Reunions, and Ultimate Frisbee the best thing that I did this entire summer! I ate 12 Nutty Butty Bars. That's an accomplishment.

5. Friends! Oh man, good times this summer. Ping pong, going all the way to Albert Lea on accident, a pyro-pastor, Risk, and so much more. And by the way, I really, really like ping pong.

Well, it seems about time that I came back out of the shadows. LiveJournal has just seemed kind of dead. *Shrugs* I don't know.

Anyway, basically the one thing that has been dominating my life for the past 2 months or so has been the One Act Festival. And that's over. It was a ton of fun, and I really wish that, well, it could just keep going. That's really how I feel about every show that I am in. I mean, when everyone else is complaining about having to be at practice day after day I am thoroughly enjoying myself. I love coming to practice everyday. Yeah, when a show ends it kind of sucks. But hey, I might be in West Side Story soon. Auditions were already held, and all, and I didn't audition. But I heard that they needed some more chorus members. And since I know the music director I decided to give her a call. I'll find out soon. That would be such a great show to be in, I am really regretting not trying out. Oh well. Hopefully everything works out.

So, if all of you haven't heard, school's basically done with. This year seemed to go really, really fast. Like, we got to the last 2 weeks of school and it seemed like we still had months to go before the end. But now it has been kind of dragging on and I am really wanting it to end. Except today really wasn't that bad. Which was good, because I am putting close to nothing into school these days. This summer seems like it's going to be a good one, even though I can't got to the Sonshine Festival. Which was probably one of the best experiences of my life so far. To all of you who haven't made the trip to Wilmar for it: Go. Now. It's amazing. I'm also starting up driver's education on the 12th, so that'll be loads of fun. Meh, it'll keep me busy, and in shape, because I will most likely be riding my bike down there, there being Alpha Omega, each day we have class.

Alright, well, I'm out. Probably for another 5 months or so again.

Did you know that there's a whole LiveJournal community dedicated solely to dreadlocks? Me neither.
